TDT: Hugs

“Sometimes it’s better to put love into hugs than to put it into words.”  ~Author Unknown

Today, I’m thankful for hugs.  There’s just something about a hug that can make time change; well, vanish really.  It’s a special thing when you are blessed with a hug like this.  I hope everyone knows what I’m talking about. It could have been three days or three years since you saw this person.  Their hair might be different: longer or short.  They may have a new tattoo, gotten married or had a child.  They may have changed their glasses or stopped wearing holy jeans.  The changes from the past to now completely melt away to reveal what I like to call, “the real.”  Everyone knows when they’ve gotten the real deal when it comes to a hug.  Four Diamond families know how to give real hugs.  An honest friend giving you support during when you’ve encountered the worst of humanity (thanks Chris) and a father figure stepping up to let you know you always make him proud (thanks Hank).

Then, there’s that hug.  You know the one.  The one that makes you completely weak.  Once those arms wrap around you, even after they physically released, you know, you’re not going anywhere.  That hug makes the highs higher and the lows bearable.  That hug can sometimes be the ONLY thing that makes you feel you’re not alone, even in a room packed with people.  And sometimes, just every once in a while, it’s that hug that makes, “This could be it,” really it.

“Millions and millions of years would still not give me half enough time to describe that tiny instant of all eternity when you put your arms around me and I put my arms around you.”  ~Jacques Prévert
