I don’t even know where to start. The beginning? Ok. Last night, I get a note (text) from Jodie. I love whenever she texts me. She’s pretty much the best ever. Long story short here, after some back and forth and up and down, I volunteered to pick up an abandoned charity race bib for the Philly Half Marathon this weekend for the Emily Whitehead Foundation. It was for the full but due to logistics impossibilities, I had to switch to the half. The fundraising for the half was $500. I decided at some point, that I should do that in 24 hours (or as Jodie so adorably corrected near the end, 13).
So there’s that.
Then, in those 13 hours, this amazing thing happened. All these amazing people I know made this crazy little dream of mine come true. Even more than that because at this point, we’re pretty dang close to making my dream times two come true.
Earlier this month I suggested watching this (only 3 minutes and 39 seconds long):
I suggest that because the little girl in this short is Emily Whitehead and what saved her is what her foundation is trying to support. And the runners raising money? That’s what they are trying to support too!
Just a few weeks ago, at the Emily Whitehead Foundation Believe Ball, I was able to see a group of children and doctors stand together to glimpse the evolution of a cure to cancer. I got to see what might create a world where cancer doesn’t steal fathers from walking daughters down the aisle, like it stole my dad.
What’s the common thread here? I’m surrounded by amazing people. I’m surrounded by people willing to give of their time, money, energy, spare rooms in their homes, and love to make this world a better place.
Jodie shared this with me today:
“I promise to surround myself with amazing souls and love them fiercely.”
I’m clearly surrounded by these amazing souls, I just hope I can adequately show my fierce love for them.
Thank you. Thank you all so very much. I’m so very thankful for you.
